Peeps into Fairyland

London: Thornton Butterworth, [1924]. Knowles, Horace. 1st ed. Hardcover. First Edition. Six color plates and dozens upon dozens of illustrations in the text and full page black and white plates. Probably Knowles' finest book.

Like William Timlin's The Ship That Sailed to Mars and H.R. Millar's The Dreamland Express, here is another book by an important illustrator who, after the war, took on writing and illustrating a magnum opus of his own. Every page of fairies and elvish illustrations are superbly designed and he even hand-lettered the text for the twelve stories, all about fairyland and its peoples.

Beautifully printed on fine paper with the color plates on gloss stock. Gilt embossed pictorial spine and cover. Pictorial endpapers.

Neat non-authorial inscription dated 1929. Moderate dampstain on the back cover, else very light wear and just a bit of mottling to the cover top, which is otherwise quite bright, as is the nicely illustrated spine.

A very uncommon title, beautifully illustrated. Item #30424

Price: $650.00
