Forty-Four Turkish Fairy Tales

London: Harrap, 1913. Pogany, Willy. 1st ed. Hardcover. st ptg. Small 4to, full taupe cloth printed in black blue and mustard, illustrated with 16 "linocut" color plates mounted on blue-gray stiff paper, 27 full page and 170 text illustrations in black and blue, grey endpapers with pictorial design in brown and blue. A touch of fraying to top spine edge, two small spots to cover, light wear to tips, else fine, no previous owner's names or bookplates.

After the Tennyson trilogy and Rime of the Ancient Mariner, this is one of the finest Pogany editions. An elaborate, well designed illustrated book that was never done in a signed, limited edition that it deserved. According to Robin Greer (Ibis: Journal 1) there was a leather bound edition, but in 50 years of collecting Pogany myself, I've yet to see one. This was done the same year as The Tale of Lohengrin, 3rd in the Tennyson series and a high point of Pogany's productivity and quality of work. Near Fine. Item #29659

Price: $400.00
